Getting to Know Marc Young, Relationship Manager

Prior to joining the Bank, new Relationship Manager Marc Young spent the bulk of his financial services career servicing the alternative investment community on the West Coast. Fellow Relationship Manager Mona Tavss sat down with Marc to learn more about his background.

Q: Marc, tell me what attracted you to the Bank?

Photo of Marc YoungI've come to the Bank after spending nearly 20 years in the financial services industry, where I serviced the alternative investment community on the West Coast. I first earned my stripes in the industry as a CPA, where I provided both audit and tax services to investment management firms. From there, I was recruited to work for an asset management client of mine, to support the CFO. But the bulk of my career was spent working for a few “bulge bracket” investment banking firms, where I serviced a hedge fund client base on the West Coast.

It was during the pandemic that I was looking for a change. I was really drawn to FHLBank San Francisco’s mission of helping ALL of the communities that fall within the Bank’s district. Giving back has always been an important part of my identity. Plus, this role is an opportunity for me to leverage the skill set I acquired from my previous roles selling and servicing the alternative investment community, while also broadening my financial knowledge beyond the public and private equities market.

So far, the transition is going very well. I have been meeting and speaking with my new colleagues in the other departments that make up the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. My fellow relationship managers have all been very giving with their time to bring me up to speed on the Bank and its members. They’ve invited me on numerous member calls so that I can experience firsthand what our members' needs are, and I have been taking classes to fill in gaps of knowledge relevant to the demands of our members.

Starting this quarter, I have been working on introducing myself to the member base in Humboldt County, as well as most of our banks and credit unions in Arizona.

Q: What are your other interests, outside of work?

I am a proud father of three boys. They keep my wife and I very busy with their various activities. When I am not keeping up with their activities, I can be found watching sports. I was born and raised in Northern California and support all the local sports teams. The only team outside of Northern California I support would be my alma mater University of Southern California Trojans! Fight on!
