Changing Lives in Carson City

Rickie Yokum, a disabled Army veteran, had not been using many of the services available from the Veteran’s Administration because he felt others were in greater need. But thanks to the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing voucher program he was able to find a home at Richard’s Crossing, a first-of-its-kind supportive housing development in Carson City, Nevada. 


$100 Million Quality Jobs Fund Invests $5 Million in Central Valley Fund

The Quality Jobs Fund, which was created by the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco and is led and managed by the New World Foundation, provided its first investment of $5 million to the Central Valley Fund. The Davis-based investment firm provides flexible capital solutions that facilitate the expansion of small- and medium-sized businesses, creating quality jobs and training employees for better positions. Watch highlights of the announcement event.

Affordable Housing Advisory Council Appointments

The Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco is pleased to announce the appointment of David Paull and Anne Wilson to its Affordable Housing Advisory Council (AHAC) and the reappointment of two current AHAC members, Stephen L. Hastings and Tunua Thrash-Ntuk.

Celebrating $1 Billion in AHP Grants

Since 1990, FHLBank San Francisco has awarded more than $1 billion in grants to help create nearly 132,000 much-needed affordable rental and homeownership opportunities for lower-income families and individuals. NPH Brown Bag: Enterprise Level Financing

The Nonprofit Housing Association of Northern California (NPH) is hosting an event focused on enterprise level financing, an alternative to public financing of affordable housing projects. FHLBank San Francisco AHAC member Doug Shoemaker, President of Mercy Housing California, will be one of the featured speakers. NPH is the leading affordable housing advocacy organization in the greater Bay Area.

Embark Apartments Groundbreaking

March 28, 2018

Resources for Community Development will celebrate the groundbreaking for Embark Apartments, an affordable rental development that will provide 62 units for veterans. Located in a transit-rich neighborhood in Oakland with easy access to BART, bus, and freeways, the project received a $1,220,000 AHP grant through member Bank of the West.

Greenlining Economic Summit 2018

The Bank is among the sponsors of the Greenlining Economic Summit 2018, a meeting of stakeholders from business, government, and community groups. The Greenlining Institute is a policy, research, organizing, and leadership institute working for racial and economic justice. The Institute received a $35,000 AHEAD grant in 2015 to create a green building and technology apprenticeship and job training program for low-income local workers.

Community-Based Social Enterprises Workshops

June 13 & 18, 2018

California Community Economic Development Association (CCEDA) and the California Endowment are hosting workshops in Oakland and Los Angeles on how community-based organizations can develop social enterprises to provide alternative revenue sources to augment existing programs. Attendees will be presented with an overview of how social enterprises operate, key concepts to consider in business planning, and case studies on successful programs. CCEDA received a $25,000 AHEAD grant through member Cathay Bank to support the workshop.
