2015 AHEAD Program: Apply May 5 - June 4

To All Members and Interested Community Groups:

The Bank’s Access to Housing and Economic Assistance for Development (AHEAD) Program provides grants that allow our members to support targeted economic development projects and housing initiatives that are not eligible for Affordable Housing Program funds. AHEAD grants will be awarded to projects that create or preserve jobs; facilitate improvements to public or private infrastructure; or deliver social services, training or educational programs, or other services and programs that benefit low- and moderate-income communities.

Applications for AHEAD Program grants will be accepted between May 5, 2015, and June 4, 2015. Only Bank members may submit applications for AHEAD grants. The maximum number of applications per member per year is ten. The Bank plans to announce this year’s AHEAD Program grant recipients in early September 2015.

Individual grants are expected to average between $20,000 and $50,000 and can be used to finance a wide variety of start-up costs, such as studies and project plans, consulting or professional services, and organizational or capacity-building activities.

The AHEAD Program offers an opportunity for Bank members to strengthen relationships with nonprofit groups that have specific expertise in economic and community development. In 2014, AHEAD grants were awarded through 23 members for 36 initiatives, including projects and programs designed to:

  • deliver job training and placement programs targeted to at-risk youth, domestic violence survivors, and returning veterans
  • offer microlending and small business incubation services to low-income entrepreneurs
  • build capacity for nonprofits to better serve their communities
  • provide academic support to disadvantaged children and teens and vocational education programs for adults

Since 2004, the Bank has awarded more than $7.5 million in AHEAD funds to 267 projects in Arizona, California, and Nevada.

I encourage you to participate in our AHEAD Program to help address pressing needs in our communities.
