Title: Applications Consultant
Salary Range: Salary commensurate with experience.
Purpose
Provide technical and business support for the production systems of assigned business units, to include working with vendors to resolve all business software and operational issues with production systems. Help define business requirements and develop technical requirements for system replacement or enhancements.
Internal Clients: • Collateral Services, Collateral Operations, and Secondary Market Pricing departments
Major Accountabilities
- Provides business and system support for in-house developed applications or third-party applications used by assigned business units.
- Works directly with user departments to assess and document business requirements.
- Generates specifications to design, code, test, and implement various application programs that support the Bank’s business processes and objectives. This includes coordination of changes that have a cross-functional impact on other business units.
- Independently diagnoses and resolves complex application system problems.
- Installs, implements, and supports vendor packages and develops enhancements.
- Develops a thorough understanding of the business processes and information processing requirements of assigned user departments.
- Performs feasibility analysis and cost/benefit studies for the purpose of identifying solutions to information processing requirements. Includes the evaluation and recommendation of software packages and/or custom solutions.
- Prepares project plans that include resource allocation and timelines for completing system implementation phases.
- Designs and creates new applications, either as a member of a team or independently.
- Prepares SDLC and system documentation.
- Manages multiple complex projects while maintaining acceptable service levels for ongoing support activities and ensuring commitments are delivered on time. Monitors project schedules and costs.
Skills/Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent education, required.
- Four to six years of computer systems experience involving installing, supporting, diagnosing, and developing functional and technical specifications for wholesale banking systems (vendor or in-house) enhancements in a highly regulated financial services (preferably banking) environment.
- Programming experience using PowerBuilder (version 7 and newer) and Oracle PL/SQL.
- Experience developing applications with ETL tools, especially Gentran Information System (GIS) from Sterling Commerce, is a plus.
- .NET development experience a plus, both using web forms and WinForms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to apply sound standards and policies while considering business needs and justifiable exceptions.
- Ability to take initiative and pursue assignments, responsibilities, and support requests to logical and final solutions.
